Located at 151 Kloof Street in Cape Town, Vadivelu is a vibrant Indian restaurant that seamlessly blends traditional Southern Indian flavors with a modern dining experience. Established by cousins Jason, Kevin, and Tim, Vadivelu offers a concise menu of authentic dishes in a thoughtfully designed setting.
Chef Jai, who trained in Tamil Nadu, brings expertise to the menu, featuring Southern Indian street food and curries. Starters include potato masala dosa with coconut chutney and aubergine curry dips, pani puri curry bombs, prawn tikka bites, and courgette fritters with mint sauce. Main courses offer authentic curries such as prawn coconut curry, aloo gobi, and lamb tikka masala, accompanied by light and crispy parathas.
Housed in a Victorian semi-detached cottage, Vadivelu features both indoor and outdoor seating, including a street-facing patio and an original indoor fireplace. The interior boasts sage and terracotta walls, jungle-themed wallpaper by Cara Saven, pistachio banquettes, and pale-wood furniture, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
